Tumbling Bay Playground, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London
On our recent trip to Tumbling Bay Playground in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the kids were absolutely buzzing! It’s not often you find a place that offers something for all ages, and this one really nailed it. The playground is split into two sections: one for the younger kids and another for the older ones, but truth be told, all three of my little ones (ages 4, 7, and 10) had a fantastic time across both.
The younger kids’ area is packed with sand and water features, perfect for getting stuck in on a warm day. There’s also a lovely little wooden bridge and a small slide that was just right for the littlest one. As a parent, it’s always a bonus when there’s a café and toilets nearby, so that was a big tick in my book.
For the older kids (and those adventurous younger ones!), there’s a brilliant climbing frame with a suspension bridge that adds a bit of a challenge. My lot had a go on the higher rope bridges and the tree houses, and I was impressed with how sturdy and safe everything felt. It’s great to see a space that encourages active play while keeping safety in mind. And if your kids are anything like mine, they’ll love the fact that the Olympic rings are just next to the playground—plenty of room to run about and burn off some extra energy.
Now, the water fountains were a big hit, although do be prepared if they’re on—you might want to bring towels and a change of clothes! But even when the water was off, the kids were entertained for hours, running over the wobbly suspension bridge and playing in the sand pits.
The design of Tumbling Bay Playground is fantastic, with lots of natural surroundings that really encourage imaginative play. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into making it an adventurous yet safe place for kids of all ages. Whether your kids are into climbing, digging in the sand, or playing with water, there’s something here for everyone.
We’ll definitely be heading back soon—my four-year-old has already requested a return visit! If you’re after a free family activity in London, Tumbling Bay Playground is a brilliant spot to check out. It’s perfect for smart family outings, combining fun and adventure with a lovely café for the grown-ups to grab a coffee while the kids play.
