Visiting the Royal Air Force Museum London was such a lovely day out with the kids, and it’s completely free! If you’ve got little ones who are mad about planes, it’s a must-visit. My 6-year-old is obsessed with aircraft, and this place was an absolute dream for him. We spent hours exploring the museum, which has six hangars full of fascinating exhibits. The outdoor playground was a huge hit too! The kids loved clambering all over the mini models of iconic aircraft – everything from the Spitfire to the Sea-King helicopter. There’s a brilliant mini-version of the Grahame-White Watchtower, and they had so much fun climbing the ladders, crawling through netting, and racing down the slides. It’s a great way to let off steam after exploring the museum. One of the highlights for us was sitting inside the mini Spitfire cockpit – my little one pretended to be the pilot, of course. The interactive displays in the museum are so engaging for the kids too. My lot loved the simulators and even had a go at some of the hands-on activities like building bridges and guiding Tube trains in the New Port, New City gallery. It’s such an educational experience for kids to learn about aviation history while having fun. I was also really impressed with the facilities. The baby changing stations in most of the hangars were handy, and the café was reasonably priced with a good selection. We even had a cheeky picnic on one of the benches outside while the kids ran around the playground. If you’re looking for a free family day out in London that’s fun, educational, and has something for kids of all ages, the Royal Air Force Museum is a gem. Whether your kids are interested in planes or just need a fun place to run around, this place is perfect. We’ll definitely be back!
