If you’re looking for a peaceful escape in London that feels like a true hidden treasure, I highly recommend visiting Mapesbury Dell Play Area on Hoveden Road in Cricklewood. I took my kids there recently, and it’s quickly become one of our favorite spots.
The play area is unlike any other—there are no typical swings or slides here. Instead, you’ll find wooden creations that sparked my kids’ imaginations from the moment we arrived. They spent hours playing on the wooden crocodile, climbing the play tepee, and pretending to be pirates on the wooden ship. It’s a refreshing change from the usual playgrounds, offering a more natural and creative play experience.
Beyond the playground, the park itself is a haven. The gardens are beautifully maintained, with a variety of plants that make for a lovely backdrop as the kids play. There’s also an educational pond teeming with wildlife, which was a huge hit with my little explorers. For families like ours who love to enjoy a picnic, the picnic tables scattered throughout the park are perfect. We brought along a packed lunch and enjoyed it in the dappled shade, surrounded by the tranquil beauty of the gardens.
Just a heads up—the park is open from 8 am until about an hour before dusk, but it’s closed on Monday mornings until 12:30 pm for the local gardening club. So, plan your visit accordingly!
