If you’re after a fun and free family activity in London, Kentish Town City Farm is an absolute gem. We recently took the kids there for a visit, and it was such a lovely experience! Tucked away between railway tracks, the farm covers 4.5 acres and is a real breath of fresh air in the middle of the city. It’s easy to forget you’re so close to Camden Town and Belsize Park when you’re surrounded by animals and greenery.

The farm is home to all sorts of animals—goats, sheep, chickens, geese, and even a few pigs. Our little one was absolutely delighted by the pigs, Wilma and Betty, and we all fell in love with Shirley the cow. The donkeys, Nora and Dora, were a big hit too, and we even spotted Darth Vader, the black cockerel, strutting around. There are also some smaller animals, and let’s not forget the farm cats, Gracie and Mr Grey, who were having a snooze when we passed by.

The farm is open every day from 9am to 5pm, and the best part is that it’s completely free to visit! No need to book in advance either, so it’s perfect for a spontaneous family day out. Parking is free after 11 am, which is super handy if you’re driving in from elsewhere in London. The whole atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming, with staff and volunteers more than happy to chat about the animals or answer any questions. You can even pet some of the larger animals, which was a real highlight for our little ones.

One thing we loved about Kentish Town City Farm is that it’s more than just a farm—it’s a real community space. There’s a wildlife pond, gardening activities, and lots of hands-on learning opportunities for the kids. It feels like a hidden oasis, right in the heart of North London. There’s so much to see and do, from watching the busy quails to exploring the community gardens. My daughters especially loved seeing the sheep nestled under the railway arch—it’s such a clever use of space!

If you’re looking for a spot that both kids and adults will enjoy, this farm ticks all the boxes. We spent a couple of hours wandering around, and it was such a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. The kids had a blast, and it was lovely to see them learning about the animals and getting stuck in with the activities. We’ll definitely be back soon!

For those looking for smart ways to enjoy London on a budget with kids, this farm is a top pick. It’s not only free but also feels like a hidden gem tucked away in the city. Whether you’re in the area or making a special trip, Kentish Town City Farm is one of the best free places to visit with kids in London. If you’re planning family-friendly days out, add this one to your list!
