Docklands Museum in Canary Wharf, London
Took the kids to the London Museum Docklands in Canary Wharf, and it was such a lovely day! The museum is free to enter, which is always a bonus, and it’s packed with nine galleries that explore the history of London’s river, port, and people. There are plenty of interactive activities for the little ones – my two were obsessed with building tunnels and trying to make a bridge strong enough to walk across. They even got to help guide Tube trains!
The absolute highlight was the Mudlarks play area for under 5s. Honestly, it’s one of the best play spaces I’ve ever come across – my toddler couldn’t get enough of it. Just a tip: bring a change of clothes because the water area is a bit splashy, but it’s all part of the fun! The session lasted 45 minutes, which felt just right, although I think the kids could’ve stayed there all day. The museum staff were so friendly and understanding, and I loved that it’s super welcoming to neurodiverse children too.
There’s also a Viking exhibit that fascinated my older one, and they’ve even got an empty room at the end for “history that hasn’t been written yet.” Such a cool idea! Honestly, we spent 4 hours there, and not a single tantrum – that’s a win in my book!
Definitely a hidden gem for free family fun in London – we’ll be back for sure!
