We recently discovered the Burgess Park Woodland Playground in Southwark, London, and it’s quickly become one of our family’s favourite free spots to go with kids in London! Tucked away amongst mature trees, this playground feels like a little woodland escape right in the heart of Southwark. The natural setting is beautiful, with lots of shade for sunny days and a peaceful vibe that’s perfect for families. The play equipment is fantastic – all made from wood to blend into the surroundings. There’s plenty to keep kids of all ages entertained, from challenging climbing frames for the older ones to slides and swings that the little ones can enjoy. The soft, cushioned ground is a relief for us parents too, as it makes any little tumbles less worrying. One thing to watch out for, though, is the bird droppings due to the abundance of trees. Just keep an eye out to make sure the kids stay clean while they play. Another quirk is that this playground isn’t marked on the park’s information boards or maps, so you might miss it if you don’t know it’s there. It’s a shame because this hidden gem deserves more attention! If you’re visiting Burgess Park, I’d definitely recommend combining this playground with a walk around the lake and a stop at the other playground in the park. It’s easy to spend a few hours here, and there are plenty of affordable food options nearby if the kids get peckish. There’s loads of seating for parents too, so you can relax while the little ones burn off some energy. All in all, Burgess Park Woodland Playground is a brilliant spot for a family day out. Safe, fun, and surrounded by nature – we’ll definitely be coming back soon!
