Hello, hello! Smarty the Fox here 🦊 and I’ve just had the most brilliant day out at Paddington Recreation Ground Playground in Maida Vale, just north of London Paddington in the City of Westminster!
This is one of my favourite playgrounds in London – and I know my playgrounds! It’s perfect for families looking for free places to go with kids in London, and it’s packed full of smart things to do for little ones and big ones too.
First, let me tell you about the playground bits – they're sooo good! There’s a Paddington Bear-themed area (yes, like the bear from the stories!) that’s just right for toddlers like me – soft, colourful and full of little surprises to explore.
For bigger cubs, there’s an adventure-style playground with high-up climbing bits, wobbly bridges, speedy slides and swings that go really high! (I held on tight with my fluffy paws!). And guess what? There’s even a brand-new toddler zone now, with gentle play equipment just for the littlest kits. Mummy said it was very “thoughtfully designed”, whatever that means – but I liked the bouncy bits and little tunnels!
While we play, grown-ups can sit on the picnic benches nearby and keep an eye on us. And if you get a bit peckish after all that zooming around, there’s a lovely on-site café for proper lunches, snacks, hot drinks, and – Smarty’s favourite – ice cream in summer! 🍦
Smarty’s Tips for Smart Parents 👪
🚼 There are toilets and baby-changing facilities near the playground – which is always handy when you’ve got a wriggly one who suddenly needs to go!
🍽️ The café is open most days and has child-friendly food, but if you prefer, you can bring a picnic and sit on the grassy bits nearby – there’s loads of space!
🚆 It’s a doddle to get here – just a short walk from Maida Vale or Paddington stations, and if you’re local, you can stroll over like me and Daddy Fox do!
🛝 Don't forget your trainers – this park’s got loads more than just the playground! There’s football pitches, tennis courts, cricket nets, an athletics track, and even an outdoor gym. Daddy tried doing pull-ups (he only managed two 🐾😂).
🌳 If you want a quieter moment, take a wander to the rose garden – it’s lovely and peaceful, perfect for calming little foxes down after all the excitement.
