Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground
👋 'Ello! I’m Smarty the Fox 🦊 – the cleverest little cub you’ll ever meet – and I’m here to tell you all about one of my absolute favourite free playgrounds in all of London! If you're looking for the best places to go with kids in London, especially around Kensington, you’re in for a real treat. This is the Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Playground, right in Kensington Gardens, and it’s brilliant! 🦊💛
When I trotted in through the special gates (only grown-ups with children are allowed in – clever, right?), my whiskers started twitching with excitement! This isn’t just any old park – it's a proper adventure! If you're after a free place to go with kids in London that's safe, exciting, and packed with stuff to do, then this one's top of the list.
🏴☠️ Pirate Ship in the Sandpit
The first thing I spotted was a massive wooden pirate ship plonked right in the middle of a huge sandy beach. I scrambled aboard with the other little explorers – climbing up nets, peeking out from the crow’s nest, and pretending we were off to find treasure! Grown-ups, it’s super safe too – everything’s designed with kids in mind, and the sand makes it all nice and soft.
🎵 Musical Chimes, Climbing Frames & Hidden Tunnels
There’s sooo much to explore here – different zones to wander through, all hidden behind trees and little hills, which makes it feel like a secret world! We played with musical chimes, crept through tunnels, wobbled on balance beams, and even discovered some cheeky sound installations! It’s perfect for sensory play, and there’s something for kids of all ages.
🌳 A Green Oasis in the Heart of London
This playground is a proper gem right near Kensington Palace, surrounded by trees and flowers. If you’re visiting London with kids or searching for playgrounds in Kensington London, this one’s right up there. It’s all fenced in, with security at the front, so you can relax knowing your little foxes are safe while they dash about.
🧺 Parent-Friendly Too!
While I zoomed around, I saw lots of grown-ups chilling on benches, sipping coffee from the café just inside the gates. There’s a snack stand just outside too if you fancy a nibble. And guess what? The loos are really clean – a big thumbs up from Smarty Mum and Dad. 🙌
💧 Bring a Towel!
Now here’s a top tip from Smarty: if the water play features are working (sometimes they’re not, like last summer), you definitely want to bring a towel and a change of clothes. Splashing about in the sun is one of my favourite things, and it’s such a laugh!
